Is feeling joy or having a good time not purposeful enough? — Abraham-Hicks
It is really difficult for some clients to believe that being happy and enjoying life is enough of a purpose.
I blame the woo industry for this. So much is loaded into the question WHAT IS MY PURPOSE? that it can really derail one’s happiness. So many clients have come to me for a session, stressing over not knowing their purpose, not living their purpose, not even knowing how to find their purpose like they left it behind in a store and now can’t locate it. The need for a purpose is especially painful and distressing if my client feels the days and years rushing past.
Usually “purpose” means job, relationship, starting a spiritual biz, giving/serving to the world — and when it doesn’t seem to happen in the way they want or not fast enough, it can twist them into knots. I understand. Nothing saps the daily joy of life than to think you are not living your purpose, particularly if you grow up in a religious environment or are taught from day 1 as a woman that your purpose is to serve others before yourself.
I don’t believe that anymore and when I question whether I’m doing enough (fill in the blank), I intentionally slow myself down and say, Relax. It’s alright. Just relax Raven and enjoy your life. Go savor a cup of tea/coffee or cook/bake your heart out. Nourish.
Not having a large amount of decades left really enhances my ability to appreciate.
Knowing that I’ll die within a few decades enhances a daily appreciation for even the smallest pleasures. Ambition, monetary success or big dreams — nothing wrong with them — take a back seat. Just learning to relax and appreciate this experience is enough.
