3 guaranteed ways to lose clients.

This is aimed at intuitives/psychics/Tarot readers but can suit anyone who has a business that relies on clients. We all go through slow or drought periods — that’s normal ebb and flow of being an entrepreneur. Even if you’re riding high at the moment, these are 3 ways that will guarantee failure in your business — and 3 ways to gain.

1. Pomp and pageantry (be normal).

No matter how modern we might seem, all of us carry archetypes of pomp (worship) through high religious services, royalty, art, fashion, rituals, fairy/folk tales, images of witches, ancient kings, queens and dragons. Even a crisp uniform evokes a reaction, though it’s just a normal person underneath the fabric.

We are enthralled by the pageantry that flounces around on the runways of life. It would be boring otherwise!

You might tweak your website, craft your image and brand over the years. Sure, that’s normal as you grow. Yet being genuine isn’t something learned in a class or book. You either are — or you are not. Despite the millions who now claim to be psychic/intuitive/Tarot readers, it’s not an easy gig. It might look cool for clicks — there’s a sucker born every minute, as PT Barnum allegedly said — but it’s not sustainable if you don’t respect the gift. You must genuinely love yourself and your clients — or you’ll burn up soon enough.

As I mentioned before, there is a price to pay for misusing your gifts.

Why so many healers are unhealthy.
I’ve met hundreds of healers, psychics, mediums and readers over the years. Some are well-known names — but the majority prefer to do their work away from the limelight. For the most part, they are down-to-earth, normal people who want to help the world. They’re empathetic, loving and kind…

The gift doesn’t meant that psychics are special or separate. I have spent my entire career saying WE ARE NORMAL, NOT SPECIAL. We are all born intuitive to some extent — otherwise, we wouldn’t survive Earth — but having the gift of sensitivity means that people like me have a deeper level of feeling on the spectrum — and we’re brave enough to reveal it to the world. Some are able to turn that into a business to help others, just like your particular gifts and talents benefit me.

The person who makes a great pot of coffee at 5am for those stumbling in before a workday is as much a healer as I am. Or the woman who greets everyone in the checkout line with a beautiful smile and How are you, honey? Stay safe, okay?

They are not only normal, they are a light to this world.

Does that mean I know the answers to your issues? No. That’s not my job. What makes me successful is that I’m a normal person — and my clients feel that when we chat. They feel my acceptance, love and genuine care for their being. It’s not about predictions that dazzle. It’s about love.

A normal human being Tarot reader.
I’ve often said that if your intuitive/psychic/Tarot reader is kinda spooky, domineering, distant and weird, run. None of that display is necessary for a great session— unless you want a show, of course. Your reader should be a normal human being. Like you…

But yah, there are lots of fakes out there. Be very careful to not be one.

Be real, be genuine and be normal.

2. Fast and loose with commitment (be on time).

Not answering emails, being late for sessions or cancelling on clients? You’ll be out of business in a flash. Reputation and being professional is EVERYTHING in this biz.

If for some reason you can survive this behavior and hold onto clients, it will come around in your personal life. For example: you’ll be stood up on dates, contractors will be delayed or never show and people will break their word.

It’s very simple formula: how you act toward others — returns to you.

Be professional, on time and respectful. Answer emails within 24 hours or less. If you’re late with good reason, shoot them a text or email, apologize — then add 15 minute of free time to their session.

3. Spout b.s and misuse power (be moral).

Intuitives evoke a reaction. I’m being diplomatic — but the truth is that we are viewed as holding power. That’s why fanatics have sought to exterminate us and skeptics think we are full of crap. Yet people from various backgrounds, identities and religious affiliations still come to us — and always will.

Why?

I’ve been on the other side of reads where enormously successful people (in terms of what this world considers success, not me) put themselves under the power of the cards, believing that they have the answer.

Call yourself home.
I’ve gone on a deep dive (still diving) into my religious past. For those of you aren’t aware, I was a “born-again” Christian, raised in a fundamentalist church. It was all Christ, all the time — and I was all in. But is that God true? Fundamentalists think of themselves as horrible sinners, unworthy of pleasure and if you’re a woman, you have the added b…

The cards do not. They are 78 squares of pretty paper. We forget this because Tarot is surrounded in mystique. Some readers ramp that up. They get drunk on power. They love that people come to a session wide-eyed, thinking that they have the answers for their problems. The imperfect reader starts to believe in their persona — the all-seeing, all-knowing psychic. Every unmet childhood need for accolades and appreciation will be projected onto their needy client.

That is a big NO. If you as a reader start to believe that you are more powerful or spiritual than clients, there will be an eventual fall. More than likely you will be punked by someone who posts the session online or called a fraud and have your reputation ruined. You may believe yourself to be the queen, but there will be one person who does not like playing the fool. It only takes one to see through the disguise and take you down. Even worse, your physical or psychological health will suffer — and in this business, if you lose that — you are as good as gone.

Be normal, professional and behave with integrity — and what will return is a healthy, flourishing business.
